What’s your definition of “cheap” in your question? How large is your family? A family of 3 can go quite a few more places for $1000 than a family of 6.

Just off the top of my head, you could go to Six Flags in New Jersey. Or Hershey Park. Honestly, I’d surf the net and look for deals. If you catch it at just the right time, you co almost anywhere on a tight budget.

Washington D.C. is a good vacation. Most people never get there and it’s a shame not to tour the capitol of our country.

Baltimore is another one. There’s a lot to do there. Inner Harbor, the aquarium, science museum, etc.

Cape May, NJ - beautiful town with plenty to do. Check hotels a couple of miles from town for some great bargains.

How about camping at Assateague, with the wild ponies? They wander freely and will come right up to your campsite. You can rent a pop-up camper for a reasonable amount of money if you don’t have the equipment.
